Renowned former Pakistani cricketer, Mohammad Yousuf, is purportedly set to be named as the interim head coach of the Pakistani team, ahead of their upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan.

This decision comes as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) continues to negotiate with Mickey Arthur for the position of head coach, and a finalized agreement is yet to be reached. In light of these developments, Yousuf is being considered for the temporary role, while a local support staff is anticipated to be announced alongside him.

The formal announcement of the interim team management is expected to take place within a week's time. It is pertinent to note that Yousuf had previously served as the batting coach of the national team, whilst Saqlain Mushtaq had served as the head coach under the administration of the ex-PCB Chairman, Ramiz Raja.

Recently, Najam Sethi, the PCB Management Committee Chairman, had revealed that talks with Arthur were almost eighty percent complete, with an official announcement imminent.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced the schedule for the upcoming T20I series against Pakistan on Tuesday, with the matches set to take place from the 25th to the 29th of March in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. The series will commence on the 25th of March in Sharjah, with the second and third games being held on the 27th and 29th of March, respectively.

It is important to note that while Afghanistan and Pakistan have played each other in several Asian Cricket Council and International Cricket Council events in recent years, this will be the first time that the two nations will compete in a three-match T20I series.

Meanwhile, the legendary batter’s potential appointment as interim coach for the Pakistan team is a highly anticipated development that is sure to have a significant impact on the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan.
