Former Afghanistan pacer Hamid Hassan has been announced as the newly appointed bowling coach of the men's national cricket team, as reported by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) on Wednesday.

The right-arm quick will retire from his cricketing career as a player to take on this role, and is expected to commence his tenure from Afghanistan's imminent three-match T20I series against Pakistan, which is scheduled to take place in Sharjah, UAE from March 25-29.

"Cricket has been my life over the past two-three decades and is in fact something that has been my passion for my whole life. It's a difficult decision for me to retire from the game I love the most, but I'm doing this for the sake of my country and my team." Hassan said in a statement by the ACB.

"At the same time, I'm honored and pleased to have the opportunity to take the role of the bowling coach of our National Team. I have enjoyed every bit of my playing career with this team, and the opportunity to work with our young bowling group is something I am looking forward to. I've been watching our fast bowling group closely and am excited to work with them to make this group as strong as or even stronger than our spinning department," the statement added.

With 38 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 25 T20 Internationals (T20Is) under his belt, the veteran seamer's on-field statistics reflect his prowess in the sport. The retired bowler has demonstrated exceptional performance, having secured 59 ODI wickets at an impressive average of 22.54, and 35 T20I wickets at a noteworthy average of 16.57, with his best figures being 5/45 and 4/22 respectively.

The highly anticipated T20I series between Afghanistan and Pakistan, which will be played in Sharjah, UAE from march 25-29, has been the talk of the cricketing world.
