Virat Kohli charted his fourth half-century of the ongoing IPL 2023 season, by scoring a well-crafted 59 against Punjab Kings in match number 27 of the tournament. The cricketer was the first to unleash aggression in the powerplay, before taking up the anchoring role just as Faf du Plessis found his rhythm.

Kohli’s 59-run effort marked the 48th half-century of his IPL career, and his 53rd score of fifty or more. Interestingly, he also overtook Shikhar Dhawan for a rare batting record through his recent knock.

Virat Kohli overtakes Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner

Delhi Capitals captain David Warner holds the all-time IPL record of registering most fifty-plus scores, with 57 half-centuries and four tons to his name. The left-hander has piled up 27 of those fifty-plus scores during the first innings.

Meanwhile, Punjab Kings opener Shikhar Dhawan has stacked up 28 fifty-plus knocks in the first innings of IPL matches, out of the 51 he has struck overall in the tournament.

Virat Kohli overtook both Dhawan and Warner this season to add a new record in his already-illustrious career. The Indian batting legend took his first-innings IPL tally to 29 scores of 50 or more with his latest knock against the Punjab Kings.

The 34-year-old has already stockpiled several batting records to his name. Apart from being the all-time leading run-getter in international T20 matches, he is also at the top of the run-scoring list in IPL cricket.

Notably, Kohli achieved another huge IPL landmark earlier in the day against Punjab Kings. He became the first IPL batter in history to notch up 30-plus scores on 100 occasions.
