India’s second unofficial ODI against Australia A at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur, on October 2 didn’t go well for Indian batters Shreyas Iyer and Abhishek Sharma. Both were sent back cheaply by a young Australian all-rounder, Jack Edwards.

Abhishek Sharma, who had recently impressed in the Asia Cup 2025, fell for a duck. Soon after, Shreyas Iyer, leading India A, was also dismissed for just 8 runs off 13 balls. Notably, both wickets came courtesy of Edwards, who made the most of his chance to shine.

Who is Jack Edwards?

Jack Edwards is a 25-year-old Australian cricketer, born on April 19, 2000. He is a right-arm fast-medium bowler and a batting all-rounder who represents New South Wales in domestic cricket.

Edwards first came into the spotlight when he was picked for Australia’s squad in the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Later that year, he made his first-class debut for New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield and also featured in the Big Bash League (BBL) for Sydney Sixers.

In first-class cricket, Edwards has already played more than 40 matches. With the bat, he has scored close to 1,900 runs, including 3 centuries and 5 fifties. With the ball, he has taken over 70 wickets, showing his ability to contribute in both departments.

In List A cricket (one-day format), he has played 31 matches, while in T20s, he has featured in more than 60 games.

On the current Australia A tour of India, Edwards has been making steady contributions. In the second unofficial Test at Lucknow, he scored 98 runs, proving he can hold his own with the bat as well. And now, in the ODI series, he has shown his bowling skills by removing two of India’s key batters.
