Experienced England opener Alex Hales made his much-awaited international comeback after a three-year-long hiatus during the away T20I series against Pakistan

Regarded as a white-ball specialist, Hales played a pivotal role in helping England clinch their second T20 World Cup title last year.

The 34-year-old partnered skipper Jos Buttler to perfection, amassing 212 runs at an average of 42.40 and a tremendous strike rate of 147.22.

Following his impressive outing in the showpiece event, Hales was in line to make his ODI comeback during England's Bangladesh tour.

But surprisingly, the swashbuckling right-handed batter decided to skip the series owing to franchise league commitments.

However, England's white-ball coach Matthew Mott thinks Hales is still in the reckoning for an ODI recall.

Speaking to The Mirror, Mott revealed that Hales could make his comeback directly in the ODI World Cup as the selectors wouldn't purposefully ignore him for the mega event.

Here's what Mott stated

"We certainly spoke to him about it, particularly when he had such a good T20 World Cup, and that door is still open. When we sit down to pick that squad for the World Cup, we won't hold a grudge against anyone who's not taken this opportunity. Anyone who's playing white-ball cricket well, is in form at the right time, and is someone we think can be good in subcontinental conditions will be in the mix."

After performing admirably in the T20 World Cup, Hales had a dream run in the inaugural ILT20, slamming 469 runs at a superb average of 46.90 and a blistering strike rate of 151.77.

The opener is still capable of destroying most of the bowling attacks and will be keen to make his ODI comeback soon.
