India's Shubman Gill is showing no signs of slowing down in 2023. The batter, who is enjoying a phenomenal year thus far, struck his second fifty for the Gujarat Titans in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) last evening against Punjab Kings (PBKS).

Gill slammed 67 off 49, which included seven fours and a solitary six, helping his side win a nail-bitter in the final over by six wickets. Former Australia opener Matthew Hayden praised the youngster, calling him the next big thing in cricket in the coming decade or so.

For India in the 2022-23 season, Gill amassed 1,325 runs across formats, which includes a double hundred, six centuries, and two fifties.

Speaking to Star Sports, the former Chennai Super Kings opener, lauded Gill's strokeplay during his 67-run knock.

Here's what Hayden said

"Gujarat Titans needed someone to take responsibility and bat deep in this run chase against a quality Punjab Kings bowling attack, and Shubman Gill did just that. Some of the shots that he played were pleasing to the eyes. He’s such a class player and he’s going to dominate world cricket for the next decade or so,"

On the flip side, several former players like Virender Sehwag and Sanjay Manjrekar lashed out at Gill's knock yesterday, where he failed to take his side past the finish line, having opened the batting.

The 23-year-old will look to improve on his performance when Gujarat Titans meet Rajasthan Royals on Sunday in Ahmedabad.
