"I never got a call": Manish Pandey on abandonment from Lucknow Super Giants

The retention day before the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League saw many cricketers get retained or released by their respective franchises. Manish Pandey, who last represented Lucknow Super Giants last year, saw the awful part of the IPL Retentions.

The Lucknow franchise bought the services of the Karnataka maestro for a whooping price money of INR 4.6 crores, but he didn't turn out to be a fair buy for the debutants.

While talking about his axing from the LSG squad, Manish made some appalling claims saying there was no communication done by the franchise.

"No, I never got a call. I just got to know about it on the day the list was announced. There was no real communication, but yeah that’s alright. I understand from LSG’s point of view that they wanted to release me and get some extra money in the kitty," Manish said while speaking to Sportskeeda.

Last season, the 33-year-old could only get six matches for the Super Giants, where he failed miserably after notching a total of 88 runs at a best of 38.

"I am somebody who likes to spend a little bit of time on the wicket. And when I am set, I look to go big. So that’s how I have been playing. And obviously, there are days when the batting doesn’t click for you or you don’t get a lot of runs," he further added.

Manish, who last played for India back on the Sri Lankan tour of 2021, is going through an average domestic season as he has done nothing up to his standards, thus far. It would be interesting to see how he performs during the IPL Auctions, scheduled for December 23.
