England captain Jos Buttler, who is all set to make a comeback to the international setup against Australia in the three-match T20I series ahead of the T20 World Cup provided an update on Liam Livingstone's availability in the showpiece event.

Notably, the hard-hitting all-rounder was ruled out of England's historic tour of Pakistan after he suffered an ankle injury during The Hundred tournament in August and has not been seen in action since then.

Providing an update on Liam Livingstone’s availability for the T20 World Cup 2022, starting October 16, here's what Buttler said:

“He is still a little way off at the minute so he’s building back. Hopefully, he’ll get back to full fitness before the start of the World Cup."

The hard-hitting batting all-rounder has forged a reputation as one of the cleanest and a powerful strikers of the cricket ball. He has plundered a string of records in recent times in white-ball cricket and his unavailability will be a huge blow for the Three Lions heading into the tournament.

Alex Hales or Phil Salt, who will open alongside Buttler?

Also, Buttler's return to the team means one out of Alex Hales and Phil Salt would have to sit out as both the star batters are currently vying for the same opening slot alongside England captain. Shedding light on the same, Buttler conceded:

"We have great options at the top of the order with guys in really good form in Pakistan. They're both excellent options. Whoever I partner with will have a great go at it."

England will begin their T20 World Cup campaign 2022 on October 22, when they take on Afghanistan at the Perth Stadium. Prior to that, they are set to take on Australia in Australia to fine-tune their final preparation for the marquee event.
