India Women continued their continental dominance and decimated Bangladesh by 59 runs in their fourth group-stage match on Saturday, October 8 to secure a berth in the semi-final of the Women's Asia Cup 2022.

Shafali Verma struck a belligerent half-century and forged a match-defining opening partnership worth 96 runs to guide India to an imposing 159 for five after they opted to bat first. In reply, Bangladesh could manage only 100 runs for the loss of seven wickets at the end of 20 overs.

Bangladesh Women never looked in contention to chase down the target. They kept on losing wickets at regular intervals with only the top three batters scoring in double digits.

Skipper Nigar Sultana was their top run-scorer with 36 runs off 29 deliveries, followed by the opening duo of Fargana Hoque and Murshida Khatun, who scored 30 and 21 runs respectively.

Deepti Sharma and Shafali Verma starred with the ball, having picked up two wickets each while conceding runs at an economy of less than four. The right-arm quick Renuka Singh Thakur and Sneh Rana also got a wicket apiece.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, the stand-in skipper Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma provided the team a flying start, having clobbered up a 96-run opening partnership.

While Shafali bludgeoned a cracking half-century, studded with five boundaries and two sixes, Smriti peeled off 47 from 38 deliveries. Jemimah Rodrigues also tonked unbeaten 35 to take India closer to a total of 160.

For Bangladesh Women, Rumana Ahmed picked a three-wicket haul, while conceding 27 runs in her three overs' spell. Salma Khatun also picked a wicket and was pretty economical with her spell.
