Coming in as a stand-in skipper is never easy, however, Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) Krunal Pandya is rewriting myths. Pandya, who is standing in for KL Rahul, displayed astute skills and leadership on the field against Mumbai Indians (MI) last evening in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, inviting praise from none other than the great Sunil Gavaskar.

In an enthralling encounter, the LSG managed to prevail over MI by just five runs, and now have one foot into the playoffs, with 15 points. Pandya, despite his fitness issues, led the team to perfection and ensured the Lucknow-based franchise defended 177 runs after Mumbai got off to a flier.

Speaking to Star Sports, the former India opener called Pandya street-smart and also praised his ability to access situations on the go.

Here's what Gavaskar said

"Whatever I have seen of Krunal Pandya, he is a terrific reader of the game. Before he was the captain, he used to play for Mumbai Indians, even there his reading of the game, of the situation is great. He bowls a different sort of line depending on the batters' strength so that is all about being aware and also about the fact that he reads the opponents well, he reads his own game well,"

Pandya slammed 49 crucial runs before getting retired hurt. He came back to bowl for his side and delivered an economical spell.

LSG play their final league game on Saturday against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens.
