In a major blow to the aspirations of Gujarat Giants, their star-batter and captain, Beth Mooney will miss the match against UP Warriorz due to an ankle injury she suffered in the tournament opener on Saturday.
Chasing a mammoth 208 set by Mumbai Indians in the first game of the Women's Premier League (WPL), Mooney got injured during the fourth ball of the first over.
Beth Mooney Injury Update
She attempted a single off the over of Nat Sciver, but was sent back by the non-striker. Post that, she felt some discomfort on her ankle and the physio was called on the field, who examined Mooney and she was taken off the field.
Sneh Rana will lead the Giants in Mooney's absence.
During the pre-match discussion ahead of Gujarat's match against UP Warriorz, it was announced that Mooney has failed to recover from her ankle injury and will miss the game tonight.
Her absence will be a big blow to Gujarat's aspirations, who looked lacklustre in the first game against Mumbai Indians. The franchise were knocked over for a paltry 64 by Mumbai Indians, and they'll be low on confidence heading into this all-important fixture.
Talking about the third match, Gujarat Giants won the toss and have elected to bat first.
