West Indies are set to face Zimbabwe in a two-match Test series, starting from Saturday. It has not been the best of times for West Indies cricket, getting drubbed at the hands of Australia a few months ago.
In these turbulent times for the visitors, West Indian skipper, Kraigg Brathwaite wants his side to make a winning start to this series. The Windies had a good prepration, which included a high-scoring warm-up fixture against Zimbabwe XI.
Speaking to the media on eve of the Test match, Brathwaite said:
“We’re aiming for an all-round team performance. I think in Australia we obviously didn’t bat well. We got above 250 a few times which was good [but] we didn’t bowl well. We didn’t bowl out Australia at all.
I think coming here we’re looking for an all-round performance, one that the bowlers come together to get 20 wickets and then the batsmen putting a lot of runs on the board, especially in the first innings, making it a big total."
The last time West Indies toured Zimbabwe for Test matches, they had captured the series 1-0. On Paper, West Indies certainly have the edge, but under Dave Houghton, Zimbabwe have played an aggressive brand of cricket, and have recently won the ODI series against Ireland.
“We had a few practice sessions at the ground. I don’t think there’s any pressure. I think the guys are going to go out there and enjoy it and make West Indians proud. I think both pace and spin will get some assistance."
West Indies had a poor outing against Australia recently, and they'll be looking to rectify their mistakes in the upcoming Test matches.
Both the Test matches take place in Bulawayo.
