In what comes as a big blow to the Ireland women's team, star batter Rebeca Stokell has been ruled out of the Ireland squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Stokell has been replaced by Rachel Delaney in the squad, but her absence could prove to be a bit too much for the Irish women's team.

Stokell was one of the stars of the Irish side during the qualifying stage. She helped her nation to qualify for the T20 World Cup with an important knock against Zimbabwe in the semi-finals of the qualifying event. However, the 22-year-old suffered from a foot ligament injury and was subsequently ruled out of the World Cup.

"We are all devastated for Rebecca, and wish her a speedy recover," Carrie Archer, National selector said in an official statement released by Cricket Ireland.

"Rachel Delaney has been called up the squad - an experienced all-rounder who has been part of recent senior squads. We wish Rachel as she flies to join the Irish camp," she added.

Ireland will face England in their T20 World Cup opener on February 13.
