Kapil Dev's shock prediction about India's chances in T20 World Cup 2022

India will begin their T20 World Cup 2022 campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday and they have been earmarked as one of the favourites to win the marquee event. 

Former World Cup winner and Indian legend Kapil Dev has now shared his thoughts on India's chances in the T20 World Cup 2022. 

The legendary all-rounder stated that it is very difficult to predict India's chances in the tournament because of the uncertainty of the T20 format. Any team could taste defeat at any given moment and therefore Kapil Dev believes that India have a 30% chance of making it to the last four of the showpiece event. 

The Indian stalwart said, as quoted by Hindustan Times: 

“In T20 cricket, the team winning a match can lose the next... It’s a very difficult to talk about the chances of India winning the World Cup. The issue is can they make it to the top four? And I am concerned about their making it to the top four, only then anything can be said. For me, it’s just 30 % chance of India making it to the top (last) four.”

At a time when the likes of Sunil Gavaskar and Tom Moody are backing the Men in Blue to reach the finals of the tournament, Kapil Dev's comments will certainly come as a surprise to many. 

India have a formidable batting lineup with a plethora of match-winners at their disposal. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav can demolish any bowling attack on their day. That said, the bowling unit leaves a lot to be desired. In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Shami will have to take on the responsibility and step up big time.
