Jasprit Bumrah Undergoes Back Surgery, Set To Miss IPL 2023 And Much More

In a significant development, ace Indian seamer Jasprit Bumrah has been successfully undergone a back surgery in Christchurch by New Zealand's renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr Rowan Schouten. As reported by Cricbuzz, the pacer is stable at the moment.

Although any official word on the exact recovery period is yet to come, as per some trusted sources, Bumrah might take at most twenty-four weeks to become fully fit and available. As a result, he will miss the upcoming IPL and is doubtful for the Asia Cup scheduled in September.

However, if the speedster hits the nets by August, as expected, then he will be available for selection for the ODI World Cup slated to begin in October-November.

Despite being a gifted bowler, Bumrah's career has been marred by frequent injury setbacks. Last year, the 29-year-old developed the stress fracture, which sidelined him from the Asia Cup in the UAE and the T20 World Cup Down Under.

Although he was selected for the Sri Lanka series, an unfortunate recurrence of the injury shut the door for his national comeback.

Meanwhile, Bumrah's IPL franchise, Mumbai Indians, have reportedly approached veteran swing bowler Sandeep Sharma to fill his void in the IPL 2023.

So, Sharma, who surprisingly went unsold in the 2023 mini-auction, will find a new home in Mumbai Indians, after his successful stints with Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings.
