Shubman Gill has been a thorn for New Zealand in their recent white-ball tour of India. Gill amassed 504 runs across both the ODI and T20I series, showcasing magnificent consistency, something that batting maestro Virat Kohli is known for.

Former Indian player Irfan Pathan after watching Gill slam his maiden T20I ton in the third and final T20I in Ahmedabad last evening said that the youngster has as much potential as Kohli.

The 23-year-old has been in rich form lately, recording centuries for fun — scored his maiden Test, ODI, and T20I tons in December, January, and February, respectively.

Speaking to official broadcaster, the former T20 World Cup winner lauded Gill's improvement in his T20I game, where he displayed near-perfect acceleration in the 3rd T20I after spending time in the middle.

Here's what Pathan said

"The way he is batting, I am a huge fan of his. I am repeatedly saying that he can become an all-format player for you. Virat Kohli ruled all formats for many years, this batter has as much potential. To convert that into performance is a different thing,

That happens with time but Shubman Gill has started to do that. He scored his first century in August. Gill has now scored a total of six centuries in international cricket and we have just started February, where all other players have scored just four international centuries."

Gill is included in India's squad for the first two Tests against Australia for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
