The Indian Premier League (IPL) is already the most significant commodity in world cricket. However, it still pales compared to the likes of the NFL and the NBA.

Meanwhile, during the annual Cowdrey lecture at Lord's, legendary England batter Andrew Strauss expected the IPL to emerge as the biggest domestic sporting league in the world.

However, the former English skipper also stated that an excess of cricket existed before the IPL, which still remains a core issue.

"As the Indian economy grows, it is expected that by the time it reaches parity with the size of the USA in 2040, the value of the IPL is likely to be six times what it is today -- this is going to be the biggest domestic sporting tournament in the world, bar none."

The 45-year-old also spoke about the Women's Premier League's impact on women's cricket moving forward.

"The first IPL franchises have just been sold for an earth shattering sum of £465 million ($572.5 million). Women's cricket is truly standing on its own two feet and is likely to be in the top three sports for earning potential for any young girl with talent and an ambition to play sport professionally."

The inaugural WPL is expected to revolutionise Women's cricket. The BCCI has received accolades from all corners of the world for organising the lucrative league, likely to be scheduled in March.
