The ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 has been phenomenal for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in comparison to the last year. CSK sits comfortably at the number two position in the IPL 2023 points table and are inches away from securing a place in the playoffs.
This season has thrown its own challenges for the Chennai-based franchise, however, all these have had no impact on skipper MS Dhoni, who looks more than prepared to fight it out in the middle.
Several reports suggest that this could be Dhoni's last IPL swansong, but CSK CEO has indicated otherwise, which feels difficult, given the captain's performances and his apparent knee troubles.
Former England international Kevin Pietersen in an interesting view, has urged the CSK skipper to continue another season in the IPL, and not to worry about performance.
Speaking to Star Sports, after CSK's final home game, the former Rising Pune Super Giants (RPSG) player, hailed Dhoni's importance as a skipper over a player.
Here's what Pietersen said
"He must love this. Why would he want to give this away? He is under no pressure. He doesn't have to perform. He just needs to be MS Dhoni. And for his kids, for his wife, for his family, how amazing must this have been? Watching this lap of honour. He is inspiring. You want to play well for him. You want to be the best version of himself in a team that he is captaining. We have seen that for however many years. He cares so much and when the captain cares so much, everybody starts to feel it. It resonates,
CSK will be in action against Delhi Capitals on Saturday in their final game of the season.
