The ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 has been tough on captains, regarding slow over-rates. Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Hardik Pandya has fined INR 12 lakh for maintaining slow over-rate against Punjab Kings (PBKS) last evening in Mohali.
The Titans, thanks to Shubman Gill's 67 runs chased down 154 runs in the final over to notch their third win of the season. This win puts GT third in the IPL 2023 points table with six points.
As per the IPL Code of Conduct, Pandya has been charged with a minimum penalty as this was the Titans' first offence as a team this season.
Here's what IPL advisory stated
"As it was his team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Pandya was fined Rs. 12 lakh,"
As stated by the IPL governing council, each match should finish within three hours and 20 minutes, however, several matches have gone past the four-hour mark as well. Earlier, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Faf du Plessis and Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson were fined INR 12 lakh each for a similar offence.
Personally, Pandya is not having the best of times in IPL 2023, having scored 21 runs in three matches. However, GT will next be in action against Rajasthan on Sunday in their third home game.
