"I think six is too many, 5 is the answer": Eoin Morgan Backs Ben Stokes

The run-out at the non-striker's end by bowlers despite being legal and lawful as per Marylebone Cricket Club's (MCC) ruling will always remain controversial, with everyone having a different moral compass. Last week, Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) Harshal Patel attempted to run out Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) Ravi Bishnoi on the final delivery, however, he failed to hit the stumps.

England's current Test skipper Ben Stokes floated the idea of penalty runs to post the RCB-LSG match, to which former Three Lions captain Eoin Morgan agrees, but with a change.

Here's what Morgan suggested

“I agree in principle. I don't think it should be a wicket. A wicket has too much impact in the game. I think six is too many, 5 is the answer. If you need one to win, it's a prime example of somebody leaving the crease early, then they need 6 to win. If they needed more than 1 to win, the game is dead until the bowler bowls a no ball or a wide.”

Morgan, who led Kolkata Knight Riders (IPL) in past editions, in a joking manner stated that a 'pitch invasion' would have happened if Patel was successful in running out Bishnoi.

Speaking to the Hindustan Times, the 2019 World Cup-winning captain said that five-penalty runs should be awarded as opposed to six mentioned by Stokes and that the authorities should scrap such a mode of dismissal altogether.
