The Australian side was mocked and ridiculed by former players, critics, and fans for their performances in the Nagpur and Delhi Tests, as they were thrashed by hosts India in the first two Tests of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023.
Apart from the players, most of the traction has been on the quality of pitches, which has led to Australia's downfall.
However, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar believes that the responsibilities lay on the selection panel for picking injured players for the tour.
The likes of Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Cameron Green could not play the Nagpur and Delhi Tests, respectively.
While Hazlewood returned home, Starc and Green played in the Indore Test, where Australia routed India by nine wickets and made a memorable comeback.
Writing for Sportstar, Gavaskar said that regardless of the final result, Australian selectors should hand in their resignation upon the visitor's return back home.
Here's what Gavaskar said
"While the ex-Australian players on the various media platforms are having a real go at their players, the ones who should be the real targets are the Australian selectors. How can they pick three players (Hazlewood, Starc, and Cameron Green) who they knew would not be available for selection for the first two Test matches?,
"If they have any sense of responsibility the selectors should resign even if Australia win the next Test and level the series."
Steve Smith, who will likely lead Australia in the final encounter, will look to continue their good form from Indore and win the Ahmedabad Test to level the series 2-2.
