Indian bowling has risen in leaps and bounds and is now considered one of the best attacks in world cricket.

Comprising the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, and Ishant Sharma, India have managed to out-bowl opponents in Tests regularly.

However, one name that often goes under the radar is Umesh Yadav, who manages to find his own space and dish out noteworthy performances time and again despite being amongst the stars.

Indian keeper-batter Dinesh Karthik reflected on Yadav's journey into the Indian team, which started from humble beginnings and has been a mix of highs and lows. In 55 Test since 2011, the 35-year-old has taken 168 wickets.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Karthik, who played alongside Yadav for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), revealed that despite good outings, the fast bowler was "always overlooked" and that going unsold in the 2022 IPL auction was the hardest.

Here's what Karthik said

"He was always overlooked at times and that must have really hurt him because every time he came in he produced a two or three-wicket performance but was never good enough to hold on to that place. You know he was thrown out. I think the hardest time was when he was unsold at an auction. That must have hurt him really bad."

Yadav recently became only the fifth Indian pacer to take 100+ wickets at home, with others on the list consisting of Kapil Dev, Javagal Srinath, Zaheer Khan, and Ishant Sharma.

He will next be seen playing the series decider against Australia in Ahmedabad beginning the ninth of this month.
