The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have always been a visionary franchise when it comes to identifying talent and grooming youngsters. RCB Director of Cricket, Mike Hesson, speaking ahead of the start of the inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL), said that RCB women will identify newer talent across India with the help of artificial intelligence.

The WPL is scheduled to start on March 4 and will take place in Mumbai with matches being held at two venues — DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne Stadium.

As per NDTV, Hesson said that apart from the conventional scouting system, RCB wants to look beyond the existing structure in India and nurture players across age-group cricket, where AI comes into play.

Here's what Hesson said

"So, we have an artificial intelligence system, where we look at some key metrics. From a bowling perspective, it will be around pace. From a batting perspective, it will be around different positions that they get into. Once we identify talent there, we can bring them into camps or we can go and watch them at specific tournaments,"

RCB will be captained by Indian opener Smriti Mandhana and will have international stars like Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, Sophie Devine, Heather Knight, and Dane van Niekerk within their ranks.

They will be coached by Ben Sawyer, who has worked in The Hundred Women and the Women's Big Bash League. The franchise has roped in former Indian tennis legend Sania Mirza as their team mentor.
