Regarded as one of the best wicketkeepers in the world, Ben Foakes will be in action against Lancashire on Thursday to play Surrey's opening County Championship 2023 match. Foakes has been England's designated keeper under Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes' regime in the absence of Jonny Bairstow.

Foakes in 10 Tests in 2022, slammed 400 runs which included one hundred and two fifties. However, with Bairstow eyeing a return to international cricket after a long injury lay-off, Foakes' place in the side is once again under threat.

Speaking to The Yorkshire Post, Ben Foakes said that he is happy and is looking forward to an exciting summer, and is hopeful of playing in The Ashes 2023.

Here's what Foakes said

“I’m happy with the way things have gone for me so it is a bit unique to be asked about that (my place), but I can’t remember a time when I haven’t been .It is more about the process of getting there than actually looking too far ahead but obviously it’s a really exciting summer.

As a Surrey player, it would be unbelievable to play here and yeah they often do boil down quite nicely here. To play an Ashes, win an Ashes and to do it here would be the icing on the cake.”

Bairstow's aggressive approach was instrumental in England winning Tests at home last season against New Zealand and India.

Meanwhile, Foakes has played 20 Tests, while Bairstow has made 89 appearances for England in whites.
