Former SRH Coach Raises Doubts About Mumbai Indians' Chances in IPL 2023

After a disastrous Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Mumbai Indians came into the ongoing season with renewed energy and took on the Royal Challengers Bangalore in their first match on Sunday, which sadly resulted in a massive loss. Mumbai's batting, much like last season, could not fire, and only youngster Tilak Verma's heroics with the bat enabled them near a defendable target.

However, current and former RCB skippers Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli made merry in Chinnaswamy as both players hit their respective fifties. Kohli slammed an unbeaten 82* to guide his favourite franchise to victory by eight wickets.

Former Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody, after Rohit Sharma and Co's loss, has predicted that the five-time IPL champion will find it tough to make it through to the final of the 2023 edition.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, the World Cup-winning player and coach explained that Mumbai's bowling in both domestic and international talent lacks depth, apart from having an imbalanced squad.

Here's what Moody said

"I'm concerned (for MI) because I sort of called it before the start of the IPL that I didn't think they'd be anywhere near the finals. I just feel there are too many holes amongst their team and I don't think they've got a balance in their squad either. They don't have the domestic bowling depth and the international bowling depth,"

MI will go up against Chennai Super Kings in their first home match of the season on Saturday.
