Earlier at the toss between Chennai and Lucknow, MS Dhoni was put in a spot when the toss conductor tried asking about the Chennai Super Kings captain's retirement plans. Dhoni - in his causal self - tried dodging the question with a quirky response, which led to a lot of buzz on social media.

During the conversation, Dhoni went on to say that he has not decided when would retire from all forms of the game.

"Ahh... You have decided that this is my last season (MS Dhoni chuckles) but not me," Dhoni said while responding to Danny Morrison's query.

Meanwhile, the episode that happened with the CSK captain annoyed his former India teammate Virender Sehwag. The cricketer-turned-commentator, while speaking to Cricbuzz, said to let the decision of Dhoni's retirement be left in the hands of Dhoni.

"I just don't understand... why do they even ask? Even if it's last year, why do you have to ask him? It's his call, let him take that! Maybe he just wanted to get that answer out of Dhoni, that it was indeed his last season. Whether it's his last year or not, only MS Dhoni knows," Sehwag cited.

There is a perception roaming in the cricketing fraternity that IPL 2023 would be the legendary cricketer's last season. However, Dhoni has never directly announced his plans for his second innings.

The 41-year-old stumper-batter, batting at No.7 or 8 this season, has the best strike rate among all batters (211.42). Interestingly, he played his last game for India in 2019, which was the semifinal clash against New Zealand in World Cup, before announcing his retirement in 2020.
