Did Australia Pick the Wrong Team For the Ahmedabad Test?

The Australian team management in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023 has faced a lot of backlash from former players and fans for their selection and strategy across the three completed Tests.

The trend continues in the fourth Test as well, as former Australian pacer Michael Kasprowicz lashed out at the team selection for the Ahmedabad encounter.

According to Kasprowicz, Australia should have played three pacers as opposed to going out with three spinners and one front-line pacer.

Speaking to SENQ Breakfast, the lanky fast bowler said that Australia's pace attack is lacking, with Green as an all-rounder, and Mitchell Starc being good with the old ball.

Todd Murphy and Nathan Lyon shone for Australia, picking up three wickets each, as India piled on 571 runs in reply to the visitors' 480.

Here's what Kasprowicz said

"I’m going to call it nose and toes. As a fast bowler, if we want to get stuck in, we either try and hit them on the nose or hit them on the toes. The fact that we’ve seen this wicket right now, it’s just a bat-a-thon, we’ll get nothing like the earlier games with the wicket turning square.

My point is, Australia has picked the wrong team, what they had to do was pick at least three fast bowlers. (We’ve got Green and Starc), but one is an all-rounder and Starc is always good with an older ball.”

As of writing, the match has ended in a draw, with India winning the series 2-1.
