One of the most exciting and talented player, de Villiers will mark his return for the Game Changers South Africa Champions in the second edition of the World Championship of Legends.

The former South African captain will lead the team South African side comprising of Dale Steyn, Imran Tahir, Jacques Kallis and Herschelle Gibbs. This is a monumental return as the Proteas legend retired abruptly when he was still in his prime. The champion batter also showed his true colours in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) and spent is prime days with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

De Villiers joined RCB in 2011 and for the next 10 years, he mesmerised the fans with his flair, audacious batting and superhuman fielding efforts. After bringing smile to the face of the fans, de Villiers played his last IPL season in 2021.

When did de Villiers played his last IPL match?

The 2021 IPL season was the last time he represented the RCB team in IPL, and the game against Kolkata Knight Riders was his last-ever game in the league.

It was the first Eliminator of the IPL 2021 season which pipped RCB up against Kolkata Knight Riders in Sharjah. On a spin friendly surface, RCB scored only 138 runs as the KKR spinners dominated the proceedings.

AB de Villiers, who had a mixed season, couldn't do much as he scored just 11 off 9 balls before Sunil Narine castled him up.

The match went down to the wires, but the team from Kolkata held their nerves and won the contest by 4 wickets and two balls to spare. This was the last time fans witnessed ABD in IPL as he announced his retirement from T20 cricket. It was a truly a heartbreaking moment as the South African had given so much to the game, but he left the league without even winning it once.
