'He Has Similar Qualities To…' - When Ravi Shastri Compared Sanju Samson To MS Dhoni

Former India cricketer Ravi Shastri had likened Sanju Samson to MS Dhoni, saying that the two share similar qualities amongst themselves.
Samson is not even in India's World Cup 2023 squad now. However, Shastri had compared him with the legendary wicket-keeper during the IPL 2023 after his team Rajasthan Royals won the match against Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings by 32 runs.
The ex-India coach in conversation with ESPNCricinfo talked about the Rajasthan skipper's composed behaviour, drawing parallel with Dhoni, who is known for his ice-cool nature.
"Sanju has similar qualities to MS Dhoni. Little I have seen of him or whatever I have seen of him, he is very calm and composed. Even though he doesn't show it, he communicates well with his players. I think the more he does the job, the more he will learn with the experience," Shastri said in a chat with ESPNCricinfo.
Further praising Samson, Shastri stated the former is more of an "instinctive" leader.
"There is an instinctive leader in Sanju," he added.
While Shastri's comments came in the middle of the IPL 2023 when the Royals had won five of their eight games and looked all set to feature in the playoffs, their campaign got derailed in the end as the Rajasthan-based franchise failed to make a cut in the final four. Although in Samson's captaincy, Rajasthan played their second-ever final in 2022 and finished as the runner-up.
On the other hand, Dhoni led Chennai to a record-equalling fifth IPL title.
