In a dramatic turn of events, Sunrisers Hyderabad released their ex-captain, Kane Williamson, before the IPL mini-auction scheduled next month. Williamson, who had a topsy-turvy IPL 2022 campaign, has been struggling with poor form, apparently leading to his axing from the Orange Army.

Before the three-match T20I series against New Zealand, stand-in India captain Hardik Pandya was asked if Williamson would be able to attract any franchise in the mini-auction. To this question, he answered that the Blackcaps captain should find a bid as he is an incredibly talented batter.

When asked if his team, Gujarat Titans, are considering bidding for Williamson, Hardik stressed that IPL is still far away, insisting the reporters keep their focus only on the upcoming series.

Here's what Hardik stated

"For him, because he is a friend, yes. Rest it is okay. IPL is IPL, right now I am playing for India,

"Don't know, too far ahead to think about it now (On whether GT will bid for Williamson)."

India are slated to play three T20Is and ODIs against New Zealand. The T20I series, which commences this Friday, will be followed by the ODI series starting on November 25.
