Travis Head ready to replace Finch as Australia's opener

After Aaron Finch's expected retirement from ODI cricket, Australia was left with an empty opening slot in the format. To try and test the next best opener, Test middle-order batter Travis Head has been given a chance to open alongside veteran David Warner in the upcoming ODI series against England. 

Head last played for Australia in the series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Even though his efforts went into vain as the team ended losing, Head performed brilliantly throughout the tournaments. Amassing three phenomenal knocks of 101, 89 and 70*. He also scored a wonderful 128 off of 137 at the Adelaide Oval against Pakistan in 2017. 

Head excited about the opportunity

“I actually feel like I've trained really, really well in the last couple of months, I know it hasn't flowed into the games as yet, but that's the beauty of it – I know it's just around the corner."

“And I remember going back to that day (against Pakistan in January 2017) with Davey (Warner) at the other end, he went at a million miles an hour and took the pressure off me. So I think as a batting partnership, we'll bounce off each other really well. We have in the past, so I'm looking forward to that partnership.”

Head also talked about what it will take to set a rapport with Warner.

“I'm going to have to run fast between the wickets, which is something I'm not used to,” he continued. I try to hit boundaries, but I'll have to be on my best behaviour between the wickets."
