Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma made his international debut in 2007 and instantly shot himself to unprecedented fame a few months later in Australia. At a tender of 19, the speedster troubled some of the biggest names of Australian cricket, including the legendary Ricky Ponting with hostile spells of fast bowling.

Sharma’s thunderbolt pace and troublesome lengths has so far fetched him 311 Test wickets at an impressive average of 32.40. Remarkably, the lanky paceman features in a unique Indian list alongside former all-rounder and World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev.

Ishant Sharma one of only two Indians in rare list

Ishant Sharma made his Test debut back in May 2007 with a match against Bangladesh in Mirpur. So far, the Delhi-based cricketer has represented the Indian cricket team in 105 Test matches. He played the last of those of 105 Tests back in November 2021 at Kanpur against New Zealand.

Notably, Ishant Sharma is one of only two Indian seamers to have played 100 or more Test matches. Former Indian captain and legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev is the only other player to have attained the significant feat by playing 131 Tests between the years 1978 and 1994.

Among other Indian seamers, Zaheer Khan is ranked third on the elite list for playing 92 matches in his 14-year career. Here is a list of five Indian seamers with most Test caps.

Indian fast bowlers with most Test appearances:

Ishant Sharma105
Zaheer Khan92

Ishant Sharma’s 105 Test appearances also make him one of the most-capped Indian cricketers of all time.

He is also the joint-second most successful fast bowler in Indian Test history in terms of number of wickets. While Kapil Dev has picked up 434 Test wickets, Sharma and Zaheer Khan have snared 311 wickets each.
