India's new number three better Rahul Tripathi played a short but impactful innings against Sri Lanka in the third T20I at Rajkot. He has been one of the top performers in the IPL in recent past, whereas now he is getting his due for being consistent in the domestic circuit.

Tripathi played a 35-run knock of just 16 deliveries that give India a strong push in the starting phase. He smashed two sixes and five fours to keep that run rate on on the higher side, which proved helpful for the Men in Blue to reach 228 as they kept the momentum intact.

His innings was lauded by many experts, including former Indian World Cup winner Gautam Gambhir, who was mighty impressed with his approach during the game.

Gambhir stated that Rahul is so much flexible that he can play anywhere from top to middle order while also batting with a free mind. Moreover, he mentioned that right-hander would be disappointed with himself because of the way he lost his wicket.

"If you talk about Rahul Tripathi, he is a player who has batted at every number for his franchise and state. He can open, play at No. 3 or in the middle order, but his approach remains the same whether he plays against the new ball or in the middle order. You want to see players like him,

"Chamika Karunaratne did not bowl too many bad deliveries but it was Rahul Tripathi's quality because of which he proved that expensive. The way Tripathi lost his wicket, he will be disappointed. The third man was up, if he had slashed hard, the ball might have gone above third man but he just guided the ball like you give catches in the slips."

India and Sri Lanka will next playing in the ODI series beginning on 10th January in Assam.
