In the latest development, New Zealand's pace bowler Doug Bracewell has been called up into the ODI squad for the upcoming series against Pakistan and India, in place of injured Matt Henry. Bracewell last played a game against Netherlands in April, which proved to be his 21st international 50-over game.

Henry, who was a part of the Kiwi side during the third Test against Pakistan, sustained an abdominal strain that will require at least 2 to 4 weeks of proper rest and rehabilitation.

BlackCaps' coach Gary Stead confirmed the news and stated that Doug is the right guy for this tour as he has the skill sets to perform in Asian region. He further talked about his experience, which is going to be vital for them against these two quality nations.

“Doug is a quality bowler with a lot of experience and we feel his skills best compliment the bowling mix we already have in the squads for Pakistan and India. He has experience across all three formats at international level, has experience in the subcontinent, and has already shown his range of skills this season,"

Stead also sympathized with Henry, who has returned back home after pulling up the injury and is going to be a big miss.

“Matt has been one of the leaders of our ODI attack for a number of years and I know he’s disappointed to be missing out because of injury. With important home series coming up, it’s vital he has time to recover properly over the coming weeks.”

New Zealand's first assignment will be against Pakistan in Karachi when they face off in the first ODI, starting on 9th January.
