Ahead of the all-important match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) this evening at Eden Gardens in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) bowling coach Morne Morkel has called the presence of former India player Gautam Gambhir in the camp as an advantage. Gambhir, who is with LSG as a team mentor, captained KKR to two IPL championships, before moving base back to Delhi Capitals.

As quoted by India Today, the South African legend, who himself played for KKR, stated that Gambhir's knowledge and understanding of Eden Garden will give an edge to LSG. A win tonight could help LSG qualify for the playoffs, but Morkel maintained that the franchise is aiming to make it to the final.

Here's what Morkel said

"Gambhir is always an advantage for us. He played for KKR, he knows Eden Gardens, and he was the two-time champion captain. So, I think it's an advantage, and hopefully, we could make it.

Look we didn't talk about this thing much. We need to do is to play and win. So, qualify is one thing. But playing final is the goal. Kolkata, Eden gardens is always a high scoring ground. This ground has a history. So hopefully we could make it,"

Morkel also went to praise Krunal Pandya, who took over the captaincy from KL Rahul, who left the tournament midway after an unfortunate injury.

"He is exceptional. He is a strong leader, leading from the front. Captain went to bowl during tough situations. He is having a crucial role,"

Gambhir despite all his cricketing laurels, has often been criticised for his hot-headedness, as seen against his spat with Virat Kohli earlier this season.
