After two consecutive losses, the Gujarat Giants won a close encounter against the Royal Challengers Bangalore last evening in Match 6 of the ongoing Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023. The Giants defended a mammoth target of 202, riding high on the fifties from Sophia Dunkley and Harleen Deol.

Annabel Sutherland's four-wicket haul stopped the RCB batters in their stride, who lost the match by 11 runs, despite runs from Sophie Devine, Heather Knight, and Ellyse Perry.

Stand-in skipper Sneh Rana lauded her players for defending in Brabourne, where high totals are chased down quite easily. Rana took over from Beth Mooney, who suffered a hamstring injury in the opening match against the Mumbai Indians, cutting short her stay.

Speaking in the post-match presentation, Rana said that the team is quite balanced and happy with its performance.

Here's what Rana said

"Amazing, superb effort from the girls, very proud of them. Defending here in CCI (Cricket Club of India) is never easy, it is always high scoring but we lived up to the game,

"I think we have good balance, we have a good combination. This is something we were looking for since the first game, but now that we have got our first points, we are very happy."

Dunkley, who slammed 65 off 28, was named the play of the match. Placed fourth in the table, the Giants will go up against the Delhi Capitals on March 11.
