England veteran and former World Cup winner, Katherine Brunt has announced her retirement from international cricket.

Brunt, 37, has represented her nation in 267 international matches, and has picked up 335 wickets, the most by any woman for England.

Brunt had an illustrious career, spanning 19 years. In that period, the seamer won two 50-over World Cups, one T20 title, and three Ashes series against arch-rivals, Australia.

Her retirement move comes as a surprise, especially with the Women's Ashes just around the corner and England looking to regain the urn.

In terms of wicket-tally across formats, only Jhulan Goswami (355 wickets) is ahead of Katherine Brunt. She was also part of the England women's team, that defeated Australia in 2005, to regain the Ashes trophy after 42 years of wait.

Speaking on her retirement, Brunt stated that this is the right time to retire and she is happy with her decision.

"It's definitely the right time and I'm definitely happy with the decision I've made. I feel like I've been thinking about if forever, not so much from a love perspective, but from a body perspective and if I am still giving the best I can for England."

Brunt also added that it has been a great England journey and she has created lots of memories which she'll cherish for life.

"The people I've met, the memories I've made. I'm so grateful and happy for the time that I've had, which is probably double the amount I thought I would get."

Brunt retired from Test cricket last year in July, and also stopped playing the ODI format, after the series against South Africa last July.
