Known for one of the destructive batting lineups, the RCB batters proved their worth again on the big stage. The cricket world witnessed an unreal partnership of 229 runs on the big stage.

In IPL 2016, the Gujarat Lions faced off against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where the stage was set for one of the most iconic partnerships in IPL history. Coming to open the innings with Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle departed scoring only 6 runs, and AB de Villiers joined Kohli, and the rest is history now.

After Virat Kohli walked away scoring 109 runs with a strike rate of 198.18, AB de Villiers remained unbeaten, scoring 129 runs in just 52 deliveries with a whopping strike rate of 248.07. Together, they forged an unreal 229-run partnership, etching their names in IPL history with the highest-ever stand in the tournament’s history.

After putting on a giant total of 248 runs, they already took charge of the match and later on showcased their domination in the second innings. While chasing down the total, the Gujarat Lions batters struggled as their batting lineup crumbled under pressure.

Chris Jordan was the star with a brilliant 4-wicket haul, while Yuzvendra Chahal chipped in with 3 key wickets. Their ruthless bowling attack bowled the Lions out for just 104, securing a dominant 144-run victory.
