Dinesh Karthik Showers Accolades on Rohit Sharma for His Outstanding Captaincy

Veteran Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik praised Indian skipper Rohit Sharma for his shrewd captaincy during the first day of the ongoing Test match in Dominica.

Openers Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul added 31 runs after West Indies elected to bat. However, India's ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin removed both of them in the first session to lead India's fightback.

Raymon Reifer and Jermaine Blackwood too departed before lunch. Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Joshua Da Silva shortly after the match resumed.

Collaborating, Jason Holder and Alick Athanaze initiated the rebuilding phase. While building a formidable partnership, it was Rohit Sharma who crafted an ingenious plan, instructing pacers Mohammed Siraj to utilize the short ball tactic.

Despite the pitch's sluggish nature, which favored spinners, Rohit astutely identified the chance to disrupt Holder and Athanaze by capitalizing on the additional bounce offered by the surface. This tactical move yielded excellent results.

Siraj executed the short ball strategy with precision, leading to Holder's dismissal as he was caught at fine leg. This successful outcome highlighted the effectiveness of Rohit's well-thought-out plan. Not only did it break the 41-run partnership, but it also created an opportunity for Ashwin and Jadeja to dismiss the remaining batters.

"I think Rohit Sharma did something brilliant on Day 1, used the short ball tactics when things were going well with Holder – Athanaze partnership by bringing Siraj and got the wicket of Holder then Jadeja & Ashwin steamrolled West Indies," Dinesh Karthik told Cricbuzz.

India's short-ball tactics were a masterstroke, as the pitch was conducive to short-pitched bowling, which paid off handsomely for Rohit Sharma & co.

The strategic implementation of the short ball tactic had a significant influence on the game. The combined efforts of Siraj, Shardul, Jadeja, and Ashwin played a crucial role in restricting West Indies to a meager total of 150 runs in their first innings.

It is worth mentioning that Rohit and debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal gave the visitors an electrifying start, and thanks to them India ended Day 1 with 80/0.
