Young wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, who made his debut on the first day of the inaugural Test against West Indies at Windsor Park, Roseau in Dominica, left a lasting impression with his glove work.

Replacing Srikar Bharat, who was relegated to the sidelines after a disappointing stint in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 and the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final against Australia, Kishan made the most of his opportunity. Despite being a newcomer to the Test format, Kishan's self-assurance was evident.

Ishan Kishan's lively chatter behind the stumps goes viral

India were asked to field first after losing the toss. Kishan was commendable with the gloves, taking two significant catches leading to the dismissals of West Indies' Raymon Reifer and Joshua Da Silva.

Despite his rookie status in the Test format, Kishan seemed entirely at ease, no doubt owing to his experience in several of India's limited-overs matches. His zeal, however, was not restrained to wicket-keeping as his animated gestures and lively chatter from behind the stumps caught the attention of the cameras, leading to several viral moments on social media.

Kishan's interaction with the players also created a buzz. A video recording from the stump mic featured him directing the fielding arrangements with remarks like: "Virat bhai, thoda sa sidha bas. Yash thoda siddha. Kaunsi jagah dhund li bhai? "[Virat, Yash please move a bit straighter. Which place you have found, brother?]

Along with his humorous commentary, Kishan's unusual expressions of excitement marked an entertaining debut. Meanwhile, the opening day concluded with India at a solid 80/0, after skittling West Indies out for 150 as they made a robust start to the Test match.

The visitors will look to carry the momentum on Day 2 and register a massive score. With the way Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal went about their business on Day 1, India seems well on course to a mammoth first-innings total.
