The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Roger Binny, who was a key member of India's World cup winning team in 1983, clarified that a particular scene in the movie '83', which portrayed the Indian team in awe of the West Indies players upon their arrival in England, was not based on reality.

The 67-year-old stated that such an event never happened in reality, and they weren’t overawed by seeing the Windies players. Notably, movie '83' is a biographical sports drama film that covers India's 1983 World Cup title win and their journey throughout.

Here’s what Roger Binny told Sportstar:

"The movie '83' shows us waiting for the bus in the airport upon arrival in England. The scene shows that as all the West Indies players go past us, we look at them in awe. But in reality, such a thing did not happen. We were not overawed by them."

Binny also revealed insights into their ‘happy dressing room’ scenes during the tournament, stating that cricket was not always the primary topic of conversation between the players. Instead, the team always focused on having fun and creating a light-hearted atmosphere.

"We never discussed cricket the whole day. Of course, there would be team meetings, but besides that, we did not talk much about the game. We had lots of fun; we would crack jokes on the team bus. We had so many people with a good sense of humour, so the atmosphere was good, and each one was a character by himself be it Yashpal, Kirti, or Sandeep so it was a happy dressing room."

Shedding light on his personal performance, the current BCCI president revealed that he always wanted to make a strong comeback after being dropped from the team earlier. He also credited his success in the tournament to the favourable conditions in England, which helped his bowling style.

"I was making a comeback to the Indian team after being dropped earlier, so I was determined to perform to the best of my abilities. Just before the World Cup, I had a good Ranji Trophy campaign, so on a comeback trail, I wanted to do well. Luckily, the conditions suited my sort of bowling, and I could seam well."

India, on Sunday, June 25 celebrated the completion of 40 years of their maiden World Cup win under the leadership of legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev. India defeated Clive Lloyd-led West Indies in the mega clash at the Lord's Cricket Ground on June 25, 1983.
