When South Africa were in a proper pickle at Lord’s in the WTC 2025 Final, David Bedingham stood tall. While wickets were tumbling like dominoes, the right-hander dug in, soaked up the pressure and showed the Aussies he wasn’t just there to make up the numbers.

Bedingham’s Red-Hot County Form Is Behind His Lord’s Resistance

At Lunch on Day 2, South Africa are 121/5, still 91 runs behind Australia’s modest first-innings score of 212. Bedingham, though, is batting on a gritty 39 off 95 balls, including six well-timed boundaries. It hasn’t been easy, but he has looked the part: leaving well, blocking the good ones and putting the bad balls away like a proper pro.

Here’s something you might not know. Bedingham was the highest run-scorer in the County Championship 2024, playing for Durham. The right-hander was on absolute fire.

In just 11 matches, David Bedingham racked up a staggering 1331 runs from 18 innings at an eye-watering average of 78.29 with six hundreds, more than anyone else in the competition.

No wonder he has looked so comfortable at Lord’s. This isn’t his first rodeo in English conditions. He has been grinding it out all season in county cricket and now, on the biggest stage of them all, he hass brought that form right into the WTC final.

South Africa’s Hopes Pinned On Bedingham

With half the side back in the shed, South Africa will be praying Bedingham cashes in and turns this into a big one. A lead over the Aussies, even a small one, could swing the momentum. And to be honest, if anyone looks like doing it right now, it’s Bedingham.

He has already shown he’s got the technique, the temperament and the ticker. All that is left is to turn this solid knock into something match-defining.
