In a remarkable turn of events, Delhi Capitals are all set to appoint David Warner their captain for the upcoming Indian Premier League season.
Notably, swashbuckling Indian keeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who captains the Capitals in the IPL, won't feature in this season of the tournament, as he is yet to recover from several injuries that he sustained due to a life-threatening car accident.
So, as reported by Cricbuzz, the Capitals have decided to pass the leadership baton to Warner, who has a plethora of captaincy experience, having previously led Sunrisers Hyderabad with the utmost success in the showpiece event.
Regarded as one of the finest-ever T20 batters, Warner has enjoyed stellar success in the IPL, amassing 5881 runs at an impressive average of 42.01 and a fabulous strike rate of 140.69.
After being released by SRH, the southpaw was bagged by the Capitals in the 2022 mega auction and played a crucial role for them last season, scoring 432 runs at a marvellous average of 48.
Furthermore, the report also suggests that the Delhi-based franchise has also made up its mind to name Axar Patel as the vice-captain of the side.
Axar, who is currently with the Indian Test side, has established himself as a vital cog in the Capitals' setup, scalping 40 wickets at a surreal economy of 6.90.
Delhi Capitals will begin their IPL 2023 campaign against Lucknow Super Giants on April 1.
