England's renowned white-ball player Moeen Ali has hinted towards taking retirement from the One-Day International and becoming a T20 specialist post the 2023 World Cup in India.
A crucial member of England's 2019 World Cup-winning side, Ali has played 129 ODIs, scoring 2,212 runs and claiming 99 wickets.
The soon-to-turn 36-year-old has had a poor tour of Bangladesh, managing just 58 runs in three ODIs and 23 in the ongoing T20I series. He also claimed three and two wickets in ODIs and T20I, respectively.
On the eve of the final T20I due today, speaking to Sky Sports, Ali revealed his future plans, which he said could be based on the outcome of the 2023 World Cup.
Here's what Ali said
"I'm not saying I will retire or I'm not saying I won't retire. Another seven or eight months at 35 is a lot. I haven't decided but I have sort of an idea of what I want to try and do,
"I think [becoming a T20 specialist] is something that's more logical and just makes more sense. If I'm playing well and playing all the franchise cricket - and playing for England - I don't see why not."
However, the all-rounder maintained he wants to play the next world cup and ensure England defend it successfully.
Earlier, the Chennai Super Kings player announced his shock retirement from Test cricket in 2021, only to reverse his decision last year.
