Australia batter David Warner is expected to return to action in the second ODI of the ongoing series versus India, as Cricket Australia expects his elbow injury to heal fully by then.

A hairline fracture ruled the Aussie opener out of the second and third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023. He was flown back to Sydney for recovery but joined the Australia squad ahead of the ODI series.

After Mitchell Marsh took Warner's place as an opener for the Mumbai ODI, Cricket Australia informed that the 36-year-old has not regained full fitness just yet but is likely to make the XI for the upcoming two white-ball games against India.

"David (Warner) is coming along nicely and a few more days of rehabilitation will be extremely beneficial. We expect him to play games two and three," Cricket Australia shared.

Although Warner's absence appeared to be a massive blow for the visitors at first, his replacement, Marsh, made full use of the opportunity given to him, smashing a 65-ball 81.

Asked to bat first, Australia have scored 155 runs at the loss of four wickets in 26 overs. Josh Inglis and Cameron Green are currently at the crease, batting at 15 and seven runs, respectively.
