New Delhi Capitals skipper David Warner has conceded that the franchise will miss the services of former captain and maverick player Rishabh Pant in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

Warner got the nod from DC management to succeed Pant as skipper this morning, with the latter being unavailable for the tournament after suffering a near-life-ending accident on New Year's Eve.

Warner, in a club statement, stated that Pant has been a terrific leader for the club. In 30 IPL matches as skipper, Pant won 16, lost 13, and had one tied encounter.

Apart from Warner, DC has announced India all-rounder Axar Patel as their vice-captain for IPL 2023. Former India skipper and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly returns to the franchise as Director of Cricket.

Here's what Warner admitted

"Rishabh has been a terrific leader for Delhi Capitals, and we're all going to miss having him around. I would like to thank the management for the faith and trust they've always shown in me."

This franchise has always been home for me, and I couldn't be more excited to lead such a supremely talented bunch of players. I can't wait to meet them all, and get cracking!"

DC co-owner Parth Jindal called Warner an apt candidate for the job, having won the IPL title with former side Sunrisers Hyderabad back in 2016.
