BAN vs IND: Najmul Hossain Shanto Competes 1000 Test Runs

Najmul Hossain Shanto achieved a new milestone, completing 1000 runs in Test cricket. The left-handed opener became the 17th Bangladesh batter to do so.

He achieved the landmark when he crossed 20 on the opening day of the ongoing second Test in Mirpur on Thursday. Before this match, the stylish batter had 980 Test runs to his name. 

He could manage only 24 runs off 57 deliveries in the first innings of the ongoing Test. His stint at the crease was halted by R Ashwin while the comeback man Jaydev Unadkat cleaned up the last match centurion Zakir Hasan for 15 runs. 

The Bangladesh southpaw was dismissed for a golden duck in the first inning of the first Test before roaring back stronger in the second innings, where he amassed 67 runs from 156 balls. 

Najmul made his Test debut in 2017 against New Zealand at the age of 18. So far, he has featured in 21 Tests, slamming 1004 runs with two hundred and three half-centuries.

Regarding the match, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan claimed the toss and opted to bat first. At the time of writing, the hosts are 69 for two in 24 overs.
