Cricket West Indies (CWI) has named Andre Coley as the men's interim coach for the upcoming Zimbabwe and South Africa tours.

Coley takes over from Phil Simmons, who stepped down from his role after a disastrous Australian tour, where the Windies lost both Tests and were also eliminated from the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in the first round.

Coley's first assignment will be the two-match Test series against Zimbabwe starting February 4 before heading to South Africa for a multi-format series comprising two Tests, three One-Day Internationals, and T20Is scheduled between February 21 and March 29.

The former Jamaican wicket-keeper batter had earlier worked as a coach for the West Indies Under-19 side and as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's teams, including the 2016 T20 World Cup stint with the Darren Sammy-led side.

In a statement, Coley called coaching the West Indies a huge honour.

"To be asked to oversee the West Indies team on the upcoming tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa is a special honour. West Indies cricket holds a special place in my heart.

The upcoming assignment will be challenging as we will come up against two teams in their home conditions. We will need to ensure that our planning and preparation are appropriate, and demonstrate consistency in the execution of these plans, to give ourselves the best opportunity to achieve positive results."

CWI have also ended its association with assistant coaches Roddy Estwick and Monty Desai.
