Pakistan skipper Babar Azam added another record against his name recently as he surpassed Indian legend MS Dhoni to become the joint-most successful captain in the history of T20I cricket.

Babar claimed his 42nd win as captain during the 2nd T20I of the ongoing 5-match series against New Zealand, where the home side came up victorious by 38 runs.

Azam led the way with the bat as he smoked a magnificent unbeaten 58-ball 101 to help Pakistan post an eventual match-winning total of 192/4.

Babar assumed the leadership duties from Sarfaraz Ahmed in late 2019 after the latter was sacked and dumped following a home series defeat against Sri Lanka.

Since then, Babar has led Pakistan in 69 games, in which the Men in Green emerged victorious on 42 occasions.

In October 2021, Azam scripted history when he became the first Pakistani captain to win a World Cup game against arch-rivals, India.

He subsequently led Pakistan to the semi-final of the 2021 T20 World Cup, where his team came up short against Australia.

In 2022, Babar led Pakistan to the final of Asia Cup and T20 World Cup, but, unfortunately for him, his team came second on both instances.

Babar is now level with former England skipper Eoin Morgan as far as most wins in T20Is is concerned. He will look to claim that record as well, in addition to avenging the 4-run defeat his team suffered at the hands of New Zealand in the 3rd T20I in the upcoming fixture on Thursday, April 20.
