Australia's in-form opener Usman Khawaja has not travelled with the Australian Test side to India after facing issues in obtaining his visa for the Indian tour.

The 36-year-old has been in stupendous form in 2022, for which he won the Shane Warne Men's Test Player of the Year at the Cricket Australia Awards. After returning to the Test fold in the Ashes 2021-22, the southpaw cemented his spot by notching 137 & 101*.

Since then, the Queenslander has been scoring runs for fun - that replicated in the series against England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies and South Africa to amass 1275 runs with 5 centuries and 5 half-centuries to his name since his comeback.

Khawaja has shared his disappointment using a meme on his social media.

The Australian unit has travelled in two groups on Tuesday and Wednesday for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, starting from February 8. Khawaja will be taking a flight on Thursday.

However, this is the first time the Pakistan-born cricketer has faced trouble with a visa to India. In 2011, he had some issues when he had to travel with New South Wales for the T20 Champions League.

Before the four-match Test series starts against India, the Australians will be attending a training session in Alur, Bangalore.

The visitors haven't lost a Test series in India since their triumph of 2004, and they haven't won a Test series against India since the BGT of 2014-15.
